‘Grand Poo-Bah of ALEC’ Pooh-Poohs Idea of Funding Public Schools

March 16, 2012 by WCMC

On Tuesday, while debating AB 110, the bill that creates a new voucher program for students with special education needs, Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Madison) referred to Rep. Robin Vos as the “Grand Poo Bah of ALEC.” Pocan pointed out that the bill lifts most of its language from ALEC model legislation.

On Thursday, while Rep. Chris Taylor was voicing opposition to SB 461 (Read to Lead), Rep. Robin Vos appeared to roll his eyes at her suggestion that funding public schools would create jobs. Taylor stated, “Once again, we’ve gone from a position of strength to a position of weakness when we passed the most substantial cuts to education in the country. Coinciding with that are some of the most substantial job losses anywhere in the country… If you want to create jobs, let’s fund our public schools.”

What was the meaning of that? Not a soul in the room was listening. Certainly not Vos or J. Fitz.
