A source in the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) has alleged that DWD Secretary Reggie Newson has ordered staff not to discuss new and disappointing data on jobs in Wisconsin until after the June 5th election. Reggie Newson’s assistant, Laurel Steinmeyer, said that Newson was “traveling to Milwaukee” and was unavailable for comment, and would not comment herself. Asked directly for a comment, DWD spokesman John Dipko refused to answer and said he would follow up “later today.” He has not followed up, nor have any members of the DWD Media Relations Department returned any calls asking for comment.
UPDATE, 6/1/12 2:16 PM: DWD still is refusing to comment on this story. Calls to the DWD Media Inquiry number ((608) 266-2722) are not being answered.
Is it just me, or has something been added to Milwaukee Black community tap water. Why is it that Black people always seem faced with the choice of choosing the lessor of two evils in most elections? I compared Walker’s leadership and Barrett’s leadership records concerning the black community side by side. The pros are very few and the cons are great for both these politicians. Actually they are one in the same concerning Milwaukee’s Black community.
My opinions and reports on both these politicians can be traced in my newsvine colum http://www.twmusa.newsvine.com, and in notes, status and comments on my face book wall and feeds I have published the past year or so. When I’m faced with the choice of choosing between the lessor of two evils, I write myself in at the voting booth. I refuse to vote for either of the two evils.
Brother’s and Sister’s we need a third party controlled by us within the American political system to achieve sincere political representation on all levels of government.
are you going to vote for Lt Governor?
Tony, what you are feeling is being felt by many of the whites in this nation as well, my brother. It seems like both parties are trying to march us to a New World Order whether we like the idea or not. I think our forefathers would have us beat the hell out of them, Democrats and Republicans, if they are failing to uphold their thoughts on what this country was to become. Dwight Eisenhower said, Dwight D. Eisenhower: Only a fool would try to deprive working men and working women of their right to join the union of their choice.” Dwight was a war hero and true Republican. Walker is a political whore for corporate America. Vote for the lesser of the two evils for now and build a new party for the future. The PPP, People’s Patriot Party. A party true to our founding fathers who had it going on.
I still say Walker reminds me of another republican who wasn’t a “crook”!
Hendricks: So what we’re going to do and talk about right now is just concerns that Mary (Willmer) and I have that we probably, are a little controversial to bring up upstairs. OK? I don’t want to, because there’s press up there.
Walker: OK, sure.
[filmmaker] Lichtenstein: Just so you know, nothing I do is going to see the light of day for over another year.
Walker: OK, that’s fine.
Hendricks: So we’ll just take five minutes. You know, they don’t know. Any chance we’ll ever get to be a completely red state and work on these unions —
Walker: Oh, yeah.
Hendricks:—- and become a right-to-work (state)? What can we do to help you?
Walker: Well, we’re going to start in a couple weeks with our budget adjustment bill. The first step is, we’re going to deal with collective bargaining for all public employee unions, because you use divide and conquer.
AP reporter a useful tool for Newson (earlier spin attempt):
Scott Bauer is VP of the Wisconsin Capitol Correspondents Association, the yearbook club at Capital High School. He’s craven, and obsessed with dress codes.
Good luck with that, Tony. Until the system changes fundamentally, “third parties” are nothing but prescriptions for political obsolescence. Why don’t you and your readers infiltrate the party closest to your values, and change it from within? Or is that too much like work? It is much easier to sit in one’s mom’s basement and rail about wanting someone else to start a “third party.”
According to journalistic standards, anytime you have a “source”, that isn’t named, the claim should be “alleged”. Otherwise this claim that Sec. Newson ordered something should be considered untrue and an unfounded rumor.
The other problem with this story is that jobs data has been confirmed by the BLS of positive job growth. The jobs data from the DWD that came out was the same as the BLS.
