On April 6, the family of slain teen Tony Robinson and their supporters marched from the house where he was killed to the offices of Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne to demand justice and an indictment for Matt Kenny, the Madison police officer who killed Robinson.
The march and press conference, organized with the support of the Young, Gifted and Black Coalition (YGB), highlighted concerns in the community that it is impossible to achieve an unbiased, impartial analysis from an institution based in systemic racism.

Eric Upchurch II of Young, Gifted & Black Coalition leads the march to the offices of Dane County DA Ismael Ozanne.
“The process is biased. What we do know is that Tony was unarmed and was shot at least 7 times in the chest and head by Officer Kenny. This was neither reasonable nor necessary. We say to DA Ismael Ozanne, if you want to be just and fair, you have to indict,” said family spokesperson Jerome Flowers.
YGB also started a petition drive asking for intervention from the United Nations Human Rights Council, OAS Commission on Human Rights, to ensure a proper investigation. Madison, Wisconsin is home to some of the greatest racial disparities in poverty levels and incarceration rates in the US.
Organizers are asking supporters to gather at the house where Robinson was killed when the DA’s decision on charges for Officer Kenny is made public.
Tony “Terrell” Robinson, unarmed when he was killed by Kenny on the night of March 6, had recently turned 19. A celebration of his life is planned for April 19, 2015 from Noon to 7 PM at James Madison Park in Madison, Wisconsin.
