On September 30, 2022, Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers addressed activities on Madeline Island during the 168th anniversary celebration of the signing of the 1854 Treaty.
“I am so looking forward to this sovereignty being embedded … it goes above and beyond just words. It is a solid promise from the State of Wisconsin, long after I leave. This can’t be a one-off. We have to make sure that the relationships that we’re building now will last forever.”
