Janet Bewley demonstrates how to be a corporate fascist

On October 15, 2019, the Price County Democrats hosted a “listening session” with Sen. Janet Bewley, currently co-sponsoring SB386, the “Anti-Protesting” bill written by Marcus Bentley, lobbyist for the American Petroleum Institute. Based on the 2017 ALEC “Infrastructure Safety” model legislation, the bill is designed to criminalize protesters and protect foreign oil companies from paying for the cost of arresting protesters.

Bewley has been told repeatedly by many of her constituents that the bill was crafted around the ALEC model, drafted by an oil lobbyist, that they oppose this legislation, and why she should withdraw from co-sponsoring it. Bewley continues to deny the facts, even when they are presented directly to her at the listening sessions.

After the session, Bewley was seen collapsing in tears. Her exhaustion, created by her insistence in towing the corporate line, is apparent. She refuses to acknowledge her contribution to climate change, the threat to first amendment rights, the immorality in not calling out the bill’s sponsors for their blatant and unconstitutional suspension of rights at Standing Rock, her support of Trump energy policy, and that fact that she is standing up to provide financial compensation to foreign oil companies who will now be able to use Wisconsin public law enforcement to make illegal arrests of peaceful protesters.

Contact the Democratic Senators listed below who are supporting these corporate bills and demand that they withdraw from their sponsorship.
